Leyla Carleo (b. 1989, Venezuela) lives and works in San José. She holds a BA in Communication Studies from San Francisco State University. She creates illustrations and three-dimensional papier-mâché sculptures that explore her personal emotional journey and broader experiences of women of color dealing with love, politics, and career. Her art addresses social justice and community building, as a means of resistance and collective empowerment. Her practice stands at the intersection of personal narrative and social engagement, continually fostering dialogue around gender, identity, and societal change.
